In two weeks they will be here! Is there anything more to be thankful for than this. Such sweetness. I can hardly wait.
I've been sitting here thinking about past Thanksgivings. They have always been busy times for me. I grew up in a very big family where this was the time family came together and celebrated the day. There was always a lot of us so a very big turkey was always cooking in the oven when we got up in the morning. My favorite memory was waking up to the smell of the turkey and Dad cooking breakfast for us. I carried on that tradition after I grew up and married and left home. Thanksgiving was always a big deal at my house. We didn't have family, just the four of us, but we extended it to our friends and can remember one time having to borrow church tables to fit everyone in the dining room. That was the year Ethen was born.
This year was a little different. It was a still a great day. A quiet day. Just the two of us. We put up the rest of the Christmas decor (inside and out) and then went to the base (chow hall) for dinner. It was, by far, the best dinner I ever had to this date. I guess because I didn't have to cook it or clean up afterward!!! My house is all decorated for Christmas and ready for the little ones to arrive. We missed being with friends, and missed our kids, but then it was kind of nice just being by ourselves for a change. Next year will bring many changes around holidays and we will go back to the traditions of when I grew up. I am excited and look forward to Christmas as part of my family will be here this year. Next year Sam promises that we will all be together for Christmas. Hmmmmmmmmmm, I may have to either add on a room or buy a bigger house!
